The anodize has 3 types of process and Chromic anodizing or type I anodize results in the thinnest anodic coat of the principal three types.
This process typically on the order of 0.00002"- 0.0001" (20 to 100 microinches) per surface. While thin, when properly sealed chormic anodize affords the aluminum equal corrosion protection to the thicker sulfuric and hardcoat type anodize.
Becoming extinct and is still used in aricraft and military industries. Chromic anodize has less of an effect on fatigue life also has the benefit of better corrosion protection, better paint adhesion.
- Good for tight tolerance parts: will not change dimensions
- Can be lack dyed-other color not practical
- Good for bonding
- Good for welded parts and assemblies
